My Endorsement for Barack Obama
Wednesday, January 30, 2008

I remember seeing my Father cry only twice in my life, when he lost his mother and when we lost Martin Luther King. I was just a kid but I remember looking at him and seeing what I viewed to be a sense of hopelessness. I can't sit by and say and do very little when a person who represents the kind of hope that my Father had in King asks me to become involved in creating the kind of change Dr King represented. Barack Obama has already surpassed everthing I could have ever asked of him as a presidential candidate, and I want to lend my voice to those who like me view him as being the true agent of change needed at this time in our country.

Hey Walt,
Congrats on your new website and blog! Just adding my voice to yours in consonant harmony concerning our 44th President, Barrack Obama. I'm still enjoying your music here in Texas and find it as much of an inspiration as it was when we were both students attending Berklee. Thanks for taking a stand and encouraging others, keep up the Great Work. May God bless, direct, protect and keep you always!
Best Regards,

I met you in Albuquerque. I work the front desk. I decided to take your suggestion and google you. Wow! Very impressive. It was a pleasure meeting you. You are a very nice man and down to earth, which I imagine is pretty rare for someone so talented and famous. I look forward to hopefully someday listen to your music.
Good luck.
Sincerely,
Ilsa Westmark

Hello, Mr. Walter Beasley. My name is Hosea Connie and I am a huge fan of you and your music. I also play alto saxophone as well and I was thinking about buying a new professional mouthpiece to enhance my sound and I was wondering which would you prefer?
By the way, keep playing the way you do. I know God is pleased with you.

Walter, For my 60th birthday and 15 year anniversary we shared the evening with you and your superb group of musicans at Scullers. Your singing talent is as gifted as the lyrics you sing and the instrument you've mastered. Obama was sent to show us the way to change the world to find love, peace and the respect we all deserve.

I just started playing the Alto Sax about 7 months ago. My Dad asked me to write to you and ask what size reed you play with? I'm 12 years oldand I am up to a #4. My teacher says she wants to get me to control my sound next.
I play a 2/1/2 rico royal reed
thanks

I was really troubled to hear about the supremacists planning to kill Barack Obama. We must definitely put all our prayers together to make sure God protects him from any evil forces existing in this country. Barack is sent to us from above by God, and he is here to save mankind from the disaster of spiritual material degradation. Dear Walter and everyone else who reads this blog, please pray for Barack!! --Peace and God Bless you all, Mirahmm

I am a son whose growth has matured into a brother, a man, a husband and a father; but when you look upon my self image and being, those of you whom have never seen me before I am a confident African American man and those of you that know me, I am a proud American. I profoundly and humbly ask you to join me in changing the direction of more than just politics, but a way of life. Hope is more than a city; it is the thriving and inspirational thread that has brought us all to this crossroad in American history and politics. Our fathers envisioned this day and this time period has given us the duty, right and privilege to cast our vote for Barack Obama; the next President of the United States of America. God willing Walter, I hope to shed tears of joy with you and your great father (Mr. Beasley). Keep doing what you do and don't ever stop, we are all proud of you Walter, from Central to Berklee and all points in between. Take care always.

It is wonderful to see your engagement in the political process. Just as you wrote about your father crying over the death of Dr. King, there will be many of us shedding similar tears on Election Day. But this time, not in sorrow or hopelessness, but with pride and joy. It is wonderful to see the progress we have made in our wonderful country, but the election process has shown that America still has room to improve. Hopefully with a little more love, understanding, and appreciation for each other, the world will be a better place. Senator Obama's presidency certainly gives us hope for the future, and for our children's future. May God continue to bless you in your career, and stay in touch with those who love you.
I am trying Cuz :)

God Bless you, and thank you for these words. I fully agree with this statement. We, humans on Earth, need a real change and a real human being to lead this coutry. All of us are loved by God, and it is time to eliminate divisions, separation and those insincere politicians who brought this country into a real spiritual and material crisis. I am a smooth jazz composer, guitarist and vocalist from Europe, and I am new here currently working on my new project in Denver. I have also sent you a message to the "contact" address on your site, and hope that you get it. Again, thank you for this wonderful statement and God bless you.

Glad to see you are still who you are!
I not only remember King, but many others before and after him who then and now continue to fight for hope in a country that will one day live up to what it claims to be about!
Let me know when you want to come back home, we miss you!
After our conversation when I was home you reminded me of my responsibilty to others. Your lessons live on in me :)
Thanks Cuz
Little Walt

I am a delegate and support Obama. When I was a child civil rights was very much alive and strong as I seen it through my parents. I live through the John F. Kenendy, Martin Luther King and the earl African-Americans. To see the dream of MLK come to live in our society today. I see the dream once again in Barack Obama. He is the leader for our day. We face a troubled future and the leadership in him is one I will follow to make our childern's future one worth having. We can no longer stand by and watch our future go to waste. Let us stand firm for our future and allow for change to come to Washington DC and have a part in making it happen. I am ready and accept the changes for a better tommorow . Our nation needs Barack Obama and we as Americans need in as well.

Walter,
You're a fine musician and incredibly talented man.
Please - don't mix what's pure with politics!!
I am who I am because of my experiences. People mixed music with social change to produce a powerful movement in the sixties. This helped shape my music. I owe it to future generations to mix politics and music. It was done for me and I am eternally grateful
Walter
I really do appreciate your email

Hi Walter. It was great seeing you at the Smooth Jazz Valentine session in Bettendorf, Iowa. You and your band were awesome! I loved your tribute to Grover Washington. Soufstrut is one of my favorites. You don't know how much I appreciate a Jazz artist of your calibur coming to the Quad Cities. I hope that you will return. Take care and God Bless.

Woo Hoo Mr. Beasley, I love your music and as I sit in the student center of my university campus-jamming to "What's My Name"-I had to see when you were coming to Cali. Well, according to your calendar no dates for Cali-but I will keep checking. Hopefully, you will be here in the summer. Have a wonderful day and thanks for listening. A Jazz Fan!
