Improv Tip sharp 4
Many have inquired about my use of the sharp 4 or blues note and the extra tension and release vibe that I seem to get while using it. I approach the sharp four by hitting it a tad flat then lipping it up until I almost feel the fifth degree. When I get very close (almost teasing the fifth) I slide the note back to the sharp four then immediatly resolve the phrase so that the listener does not really know what hit them. The feeling is like going up then down on a ride very quickly. Approach flat, lip up almost to the 5th, lip down, and resolve. That is my little secret.
