Brevity and Performance

Brevity and Performance
It is important to understand that listening very carefully to people you love for an extended period of time is paramount to strenghtening any relationship. However nothing could be further from the truth when performing. In my opinion it is best to work toward establishing a good sound so that people are interested in what you have to say starting with the first word or note. If you are focusing your delivery in this way you wont have to take half a day to say what you have to say musically. Cannonball, Bird, Hodges, Donny Hathaway, Peabo, Sam Cooke, Dionne, etc could make you shiver with one phrase, oft times the first phrase, so that after two or three minutes you were emotionally addicted to what they had to say/play. Why has music become so boring? In my opinion musicians are taking too long to get the f!@ point. Then when the climax is within reach or even acheived we just keep playing and playing and playing etc until the musician and the audience become bored. People more than ever simply dont have time to waste on notes, phrases and words that make no sense. Study your craft and make sure that in learning to comunicate musically you understand that there is a consumer on the other end who deserves your best effort.
